Philosophy and Approach
Dr. Lana Hawkins is a registered psychologist at Journey Psychology. With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Hawkins draws from the strength of her training, current research, and life experience to work with people to find paths toward a happier, more fulfilled life. Dr. Hawkins has a deep understanding of various therapeutic approaches and tailors her treatment plans to meet the unique needs of each individual. She believes in the importance of building a strong therapeutic relationship with her clients in order to create a safe and supportive environment for growth and healing. Dr. Hawkins is committed to helping individuals navigate through challenges and develop coping strategies that promote long-lasting positive change.

Utilizing an evidence-informed approach, she customizes therapy to fit each client’s unique needs at any given moment. She specializes in trauma-informed care, particularly for first responders and individuals who have experienced complex trauma, providing a safe and supportive environment for healing. Dr. Hawkins is dedicated to fostering resilience and promoting mental well-being, guiding clients on a path of recovery and self-discovery. Her expertise encompasses anxiety and depression management, stress reduction, grief and loss support, and relationship issues. Additionally, she incorporates mindfulness and emotion regulation techniques, along with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) principles, to help clients address negative thought patterns. By drawing from a diverse range of therapeutic modalities, Dr. Hawkins ensures that her approach is comprehensive, effective, and tailored to the individual needs of each client.
Creating Meaningful Change
In her work with clients of all ages, she focuses on collaborating with clients to uncover what lies in the way of the changes they would like to see in their lives. From there, she works in a flexible and meaningful manner to identify ideas and practical strategies. Dr. Hawkins draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) along with other therapy approaches when working with her clients, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Through active listening and empathy, she helps her clients gain insight into their challenges and develop the necessary skills to overcome them. She enjoys working with adolescent girls and women, as she understands the unique experiences and pressures they face. By incorporating evidence-based approaches into her practice, she ensures that her clients receive the most effective methods of treatment. This allows her to provide a comprehensive and holistic approach to therapy that promotes long-lasting change and growth.
Education and Credentials
Dr. Hawkins holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Simon Fraser University. She is a Registered Psychologist, in good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists and the Psychologists Association of Alberta.
