Philosophy and Approach

Sharilyn Theriault is a Registered Psychologist who brings extensive experience supporting clients through a wide range of emotional, behavioural, and life challenges. Her approach is compassionate, direct, and goal-oriented, combining warmth and empathy with clear treatment plans and practical strategies. Sharilyn believes that a strong therapeutic relationship creates the foundation for meaningful change. She works collaboratively with clients to understand their experiences, build on their strengths, and develop the insight and tools needed to move forward with confidence. She values being both a supportive presence and a strong advocate, helping clients feel understood while encouraging progress toward meaningful personal goals.

Creating Meaningful Change

Sharilyn creates a caring, authentic environment where clients can explore how past experiences and relationships influence their present thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. She helps clients identify patterns that may no longer serve them, strengthen coping skills, and make choices that reflect their goals and personal values. Her goal is to promote greater self-awareness, stronger relationships, and improved day-to-day functioning. With adolescents, Sharilyn uses engaging, developmentally appropriate strategies and, when appropriate, collaborates with parents to help them better understand and support their youth.

Her therapeutic approach draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). She may also integrate mindfulness, somatic approaches, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) -informed strategies. Her work is informed by attachment theory, neuropsychology, and evolutionary psychology, allowing her to tailor evidence-informed care to each client’s needs.
